The GE symbol is a Registered Trade Mark of the General Electric Company USA

Asbestos sheeting was originally introduced as a lightweight alternative to commercial slate and tile roofing. Fibres of mainly white chrysotile asbestos provided the strength and flexibility to allow cement sheets to be pressed into standard profiles that carried a realistic 50 year life expectancy.

Manufacture continued until the early 1980's when the dangers of asbestos led to its replacement, mainly with PVA cellulose.

Asbestos or non-asbestos cement fibre roof sheets are always of a "fragile nature" and should never he crossed without the use of approved crawling boards or free standing access platforms.

Seamsil 400 Flexible Repair System

The main problems encountered today are minor cracks and loose and leaking galvanised hook bolts, often wth corroded threads that make it impossible to re-tighten. These can be easily sealed with our Seamsil 400 specification by cropping and encapsulating the bolt with Seamsil Sealant and Basecoat onto to the asbestos roof sheet.

Difficult to replace rooflights may be treated with Delglaze clear weatherproof coating.

The GE Roofing System

Asbestos roof structures in the older manufacturing sector are often uninsulated and prone to massive heat loss. The GE Roofing System is a tough, durable yet lightweight insulation and weather protection system comprising self-flashing sprayed polyurethane foam finished with Delcote Architectural Coating.

The combination of low maintenance, leak free performance and energy efficiency make the GE Roofing System an economical alternative to resheeting.

Sprayed polyurethane foam insulation can substantially reduce heat loss in a building, Savings in the overall heating expenditure can offset the capital outlay for the GE Roofing System and could be recouped in as little as 3 years.

Where there is a case for upgrading roof insulation, weatherproofing on damaged or old roofs often also requires improvement. The GE Roofing System offers both advantages in one simple process. Disruption of the workforce and working environment is negligible with the external application of the GE Roofing System.
