When the roof on Hartsfield Junior School in Hertfordshire started to deteriorate, Corus Refurbishment Solutions were commissioned to provide an effective solution to resolve the problem.The existing roof was clad in a Plastisol coated profile steel sheeting, which on inspection by Corus Refurbishment Solutions, was found to have areas of de-lamination and surface deterioration and it also showed signs of surface and cut edge corrosion.
As the steel sheeting itself was still structurally sound, a roof repainting system was recommended. This particular system met with the Client’s criteria and caused minimal disruption to the school’s activities whilst work was in progress. The Approved Contractor firstly treated the areas of corrosion and power- washed the roof to remove all traces of surface contamination and non- adherent coatings. This discounted the need for chemical stripping.
All overlaps, cut edges, penetration points and fixings were pre-treated with a water-repellent and corrosion resistant sealant (Seamsil) before the entire roof surface received two applications of an architectural coating (Delcote) in a Slate Grey colour. This liquid silicone system is designed to provide an effective coating with a minimum thickness of 200 microns on a wide range of building and cladding materials. It is particularly effective for reinstating aged organic coated roof and wall cladding products and therefore ideal for this particular project.
On completion, Corus Refurbishment Solutions inspected the roof along with their Approved Contractor, Giromax Technology Ltd, who supplied the coating system. The Client was then issued with a Corus Refurbishment Solutions 10 year Product and Workmanship Warranty.
