Girosil® RC, Girosil® RC-G provided an effective solution to treat cut edge corrosion and weather damage, prolonging the life of the metal sheets and guttering for up to 20 years and restoring the appearance of the building.

Problem
As years had passed since the original fitting of the metal sheets and guttering, factory applied coatings had weakened. There was also little to no evidence of regular maintenance, so corrosion and weather damage was beginning to cause issues to the building.
The existing metal pitched roof was ageing with signs of corrosion evident throughout. There was spot corrosion in the substrate, some fixings had become loose and other contractors had carried out historical patch repairs.
The gutter system servicing the main roof of the building was reaching its serviceable life, and a lack of maintenance had caused corrosive damage to accelerate. Additionally, the previously hand painted metal wall cladding had started to fail and flake.
Solution
The Giromax product range was specified as it provided an effective long-term solution to the problems being faced. The roof was prepared and cleaned of debris and loose coatings, and all fixtures, lap joints and cut edges of flashings were encapsulated with the sealant, before a coat of Girosil® RC was applied via an airless spray system. This extended the lifespan of the metal roof by 20 years.
Gutters were also cleared and cleaned. The gutter was then primed before the joints and fixings were sealed and coated with Girosil® RC-G, which provides 15 years of additional protection.
Loose coating and dirt were also removed from the mansard cladding, gutter fascias and soffits panels. Once prepped, Giromax® was applied using an airless spray system to ensure an evenly distributed paint film, and an extended lifespan of 10 years.

Girosil® RC (now named Giromax® Roofcoat (Metal)) is a one coat solution for treating cut edge corrosion caused by weathering and UV exposure. The coating can provide long-term protection for metal roofs through the use of innovative laminar fake technology that seals and bonds with corrosion, forming a strong elastic coating. The solution is also moisture tolerant, meaning it can even be applied in damp conditions.
Girosil® RC-G (now named Giromax® Guttercoat) repairs and protects commercial gutters against all weather extremes and standing water. The solution fully encapsulates the joints and substrate to provide a protective barrier that can extend the life of the gutter system for up to 15 years.
